Brent Spiner is out from Supergirl‘s fourth season.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spiner exited his recurring role of Vice President Baker in the show’s fourth season due to “a family matter that conflicts with production dates”. Who knows? Maybe, we’ll get the Star Trek alum back on the show.
Maybe he’ll play Brainiac. That would be cool.
Due to Spiner’s exit, the role had to be recast. Luckily, the show was able to do so quickly. Spiner was replaced with Bruce Boxleitner. Boxleitner also has an impressive sci-fi pedigree, having roles in Tron and Babylon 5.
Many think the VP’s role in the series will have to do with President Marsdin (Lynda Carter) being revealed as an alien. Given the growing anti-alien rhetoric in the fourth season of the series, it makes sense. The character of Baker is described as someone who will have to step up as a leader in a big way as well as being adept and politically minded.
We’re hoping that Marsdin gets to stay in office, if only to see more of Lynda Carter on the show.
Supergirl returns Sunday, October 14th on the CW.
