SDCC 2018: Wonder Woman And Shazam And Aquaman, Oh My!

One of the biggest pulls to the iconic Hall H on the Saturday of SDCC is always the Warner Bros. panel. Mostly because this includes the DC Cinematic Universe. This year DC brought Aquaman, Shazam, and a nice surprise to us all – Wonder Woman 1984.

The panel started with WW84 and despite only being a few weeks into filming Patty Jenkins, Gal Gadot, and Chris Pine (he’s apparently, according to Gadot, just a water boy) (but seriously how is Steve Trevor back?) were in attendance. Not only that but Jenkins was somehow able to put together a small rough clip from what they’ve filmed so far in the three and a half weeks of production they’ve completed and Wonder Woman is not letting any of us down and still kicking ass in the 80s..

When asked about why Jenkins chose to have the film set in the 80s, she said that she wanted Wonder Woman to “visit a period of time as us at our most extreme.”

Gadot revealed that the film isn’t technically a sequel and that it can be seen as its own film, its own story.

The panel also provided us with one of my new favourite quotes about Wonder Woman from Jenkins:

“The thing that I love most about Wonder Woman is that I feel she is us more than other superheroes. People find themselves in Wonder Woman and the Wonder Woman in us. She made each of us believe in the Wonder Woman in us.”

This is a film we want now.

Next up after WW84 we moved on to Shazam.

Now I won’t lie to you – I knew nothing about this character coming into this panel and I was pleasantly surprised. It seems like it will be the bright spot in DC’s more serious tone that it so desperately needs.

Zachary Levi is always a delight and it was very clear it was having the time of his life on that Hall H stage.

Last but certainly not least we have Aquaman.

This is the second time Aquaman is taking the stage at SDCC in as many years and this time we actually have more to see!

After they released the trailer above that everyone got to see, the director, James Wan, told the room that they have more footage that was just for Hall H and let me tell you, that footage was unreal.

It was a combination of an extended scene and another trailer and let’s just say we may or may not have seen Aquaman in his actual suit.

The entire room gasped. Jason Momoa threw his chair. It was a lot.

Oh and Mera fans, don’t you worry, we will be seeing her kick some ass and will definitely not need any saving in this film – in fact, she is the one doing the saving for the most part.

We. Are. Ready.
