In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars held a panel at Comic Con. During that panel, the news fans had been pushing for over the last several years, using #SaveTheCloneWars, was delivered. The Clone Wars will continue on Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service.

See the new trailer below.

Debuting in the summer of 2008, The Clone Wars followed Star Wars Episode II and chronicled the events leading up to Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. The Emmy Award-winning show was created and executive produced by George Lucas with Dave Filoni as Supervising Director. Over six seasons, the show, Lucasfilm’s first-ever CG animated TV series expanded the Star Wars universe. The Clone Wars introduced many fan favorite characters and developed other characters’ backstories.

Since 2013, fans have sent ten of thousands of emails and letters to Disney and Lucasfilm in an effort to resurrect the series. The twelve new Clone Wars episodes will continue the storylines introduced in the original series. Classic characters from the original series will return including Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, and Captain Rex.

Filoni will resume his role on The Clone Wars continuation, saying, “I honestly didn’t think we would ever have the opportunity to return to The Clone Wars. Thanks to the relentless fan support and the team behind Disney’s direct-to-consumer streaming service, we will now get to tell more of those stories. We feel a tremendous responsibility to make something that lives up to the legacy that George Lucas created with the original series and I think our team, many of whom worked on the show from the beginning, has risen to the challenge.”
