Ever since it was announced that Glee alums Darren Criss and Lea Michele were going to go out on tour together this summer, the anticipation of how great these two musicians reached an all time high, especially for the fans of the stars. Criss and Michele delivered some of Glee most memorable moments during the show’s six seasons so it was safe to say that the pair had a lot riding on this tour as far being expected to give the audience the same amazing performances.
They definitely did not let fans down, especially those in attendance during the Durham stop of the LM/DC tour. The duo got the crowd going right off the bat with a stirring rendition of “Broadway Baby”, which totally set the tone for the evening as it was a night filled with a love of all things musical theater and more. Other show tunes that made the set list were “I Dreamed A Dream”, “Suddenly, Seymour”, and “Don’t You Rain On My Parade,” which landed Michele a standing ovation from the audience after her performance.
Criss received his own standing ovation during his set after performing his infamous rendition of “Teenage Dream”, which he politely asked the audience to let him sing on his own as opposed to helping him out during the chorus. Criss started the performance on the piano before letting all his energy out and inviting the band to join him to get the crowd fully into the song. Criss also received all kinds of love and respect from the crowd as he wowed the audience with his versions of North Carolina native James Taylor’s songs as a special treat for the crowd.
Each of the musicians showcased some of their newer material from their respective new albums and joined forces to sing one of the songs from Michele’s album “Getaway Car”, which was one of the many highlights during the evening.
As amazing as each of them were in their own individual sets, their duets were what really sold the tour as being an event that you would not want to miss as the chemistry between them and their harmonies were flawless from start to finish. The duo treated fans to some of their most memorable duets featured on Glee and even ones they wished that had had the opportunity to do while on the show. Their rendition of “Falling Slowly” from the musical Once is definitely one for the history books and landed the duo a standing ovation along with their 100% completely acoustic (no microphones) version of Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love”, which closed out the show.
All in all, if Criss and Michele ever go out on tour together again, definitely make it a point to go check them out as they will not disappoint you.
