The films and television properties of the MCU have been making a much needed push for diversity in recent years. While there is still ground to cover in terms of race and gender, there is a distinct lack of LGBTQ+ characters in the films of the MCU. (Not that there are many in the TV realm, but there are some.)
According to Marvel boss, Kevin Feige, this will change in the near future. In an interview with The Playlist, he confirmed that there will be two LGBTQ+ characters.
It’s about time.
When asked if they were new or established characters, Feige said, “Both… Both ones you’ve seen and ones you haven’t seen.”
He wouldn’t say which established character will come out as LGBTQ+. Previously, Tessa Thompson said that Valkyrie was bisexual, but it was never confirmed by Marvel (thought heavily leaned on in film). Of course, there are those legions of fans that hope the relationship between Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) is a bit more.
Until we get confirmation, however, we can only guess.
Hopefully, we’ll get the answers sooner rather than later.
