Whovians rejoice! San Diego Comic Con is going to be the place to be at this summer, especially if you are looking forward to the upcoming season of Doctor Who.
It was announced Thursday that Doctor Who will be one of the panels at this year’s convention. BBC America broke the news earlier in the day. The panel will be introducing the world to the 13th Doctor, played Jodie Whittaker. Whittaker is mostly known to fans as being a part of the critically acclaimed and hit drama series Broadchurch. Whittaker was announced as the successor to Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor last July.
Whittaker will be joined on the panel by two of her Doctor Who co-stars, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill, who play Ryan and Yasmin, as well as award-winning series showrunner Chris Chibnall (Broadchurch) and executive producer Matt Strevens (An Adventure In Space And Time). The panel will mark the first time appearance of the new cast and first gathering before the new season of the hit series debuts in the fall on BBC America.
Spearheading the panel as the moderator is none other than the Nerdist himself and mega Whovian Chris Hardwick. The Doctor Who panel at San Diego Comic Con has always been a fan favorite ever since the show brought its cast as part of the first-ever slate of TV shows to gather with fans in Hall H, when Comic-Con presented a TV line-up in the iconic venue.
Whittaker will be making history on the long running show as its first female Doctor, and with Chibnall being the showrunner, there is no doubt in anyone’s minds that fans everywhere will be in for a treat in the new season.
No word yet has been released on which day the panel will be on at this time but here’s hoping it will fall on Thursday or Sunday so it can get the attention it deserves!
