It’s time to get pumped because a new iconic trio is about to hit the Broadway stage. Unlike the Plastics, these girls aren’t mean. Well not intentionally anyway.
The much-loved, classic 1995 teen comedy Clueless is going to premiere Off-Broadway to our endless delight. The comedy, loosely adapted from Jane Austen’s Emma, follows superficial yet well-meaning Cher Horowitz (Alicia Silverstone) as she tries to improve the lives of those around her.
Granted this is a simplistic summary, but the film demands to be seen.
The Off-Broadway jukebox musical, written by the film’s writer/director Amy Heckerling, will reimagine 90s hits as parodies and monologues from the love-obsessed teens in Beverly Hills. There’s some fierce female power behind the scenes as well with Kristin Hanggi (Rock of Ages) directing and Kelly Devine choreographing. Hanggi has been nominated for a Tony once and Devine twice.
The musical will premiere as part of The New Group’s theatre 2018-2019 season. Casting is currently underway.
We are totally stoked to see this musical. We’re just hoping that it won’t have us saying “As, if!”
