Supergirl‘s season finale left some pretty big changes to the team going into season four.
With Jeremy Jordan bumped to a recurring role and Jesse Rath joining full-time, audiences figured some changes would be in store.
Spoilers for the Supergirl season three finale!
Winn (Jordan) has gone to the future with Mon-El (Chris Wood) in order to fight the original Brainiac. Brainy (Rath) has taken over Winn’s job at the DEO. Alex (Chyler Leigh) has been made the Head of the DEO while J’onn (David Harewood) retires in order to join the world at large.
With Mon-El’s future return, however, comes a confirmation as to Wood’s status next season. Chris Wood has officially left the show, according to TVLine.
Co-showrunners Jessica Queller and Robert Rovner discussed the departure.
According to Rovner, Mon-El was always meant to be a two-season character. “We’ve loved telling Mon-El’s story, as well as the story we’ve told for him and Kara. We hope the fans felt that it was a satisfying conclusion.”
Queller said, “They both have destinies in different times as heroes. What they did was the sort-of Casablanca decision of putting what’s most important to them — which is saving the world — first. It’s a little bittersweet that one destiny is to be a hero in this time and one’s destiny is to run the Legion in another time, but I think they grew a lot from knowing one another. They have respect for one another, and they have a respect for the decisions they respectively made.”
Mon-El has been a polarizing character amongst fans since joining the cast in season two. You either liked him or you hated him. The same goes for Mon-El and Kara’s ill-fated romance. Though Chris Wood has exited the show as a series regular, there is still a chance for him to guest star.
As Rovner said, “We love working with Chris, so we’d love to have Mon-El back someday if the story takes us there and if Chris is available.”
Supergirl season four will air Sundays at 8/7c on the CW.
