For those wondering if the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be making another return appearance on television after being absent for the past few rounds, wonder no more as that question has an answer, somewhat.
When it comes to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the show tends to thrive on the tie-ins to the big screen projects from the MCU, which have been lacking in the past few seasons, but that doesn’t seem to be the case this go round. For example, in the April 27 episode, Mack’s friend Tony Caine (aka Candy Man) made a fleeting reference to “all the weird stuff happening in New York,” when he met up with Daisy.
And that is just the tip of the iceberg as the show is by no means done acknowledging the events of Avengers: Infinity War thankfully. It would have been such a pity and a huge misstep for the veteran drama to completely disregard Infinity War given how much it has already changed the MCU in such a short time.
That very fleeting reference from Tony does allude to the film’s moment in the Big Apple, home to Tony Stark and Peter Parker.
There will be more references to the big war from the rest of the agents, who get wind of what’s going down on Earth, which is interesting considering they were locked down in a lighthouse in last week’s episode. Not that being on lockdown will stop them from hearing about what’s going on, according to Adrian Pasdar, who portrays General Talbot on the show.
“Yeah, we do have stuff in the background periodically that references and ties into what’s going on with Avengers: Infinity War,” Pasdar, shared during a Tuesday interview. “Yeah, they use that. They always tie in very well with what’s going on [in the movies].”
As for whether the show will have a legit and 100% official tie in with Infinity War like it did with Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Pasdar was unable to say, unfortunately. The actor hasn’t seen the game-changing film just yet so he couldn’t confirm how the show and the film will connect if they even do. “I was invited to the premiere and I just couldn’t make it,” he revealed.
Here’s hoping that we do get a tie-in and that our agents get to play some kind of role in trying to save the world from Thanos!
