Avengers 4 will presumably undo a lot of what happened in Avengers: Infinity War. We’re not saying it’ll undo everything, but enough. Especially if you consider the slate of films to be released in the MCU.
One of those is the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming.
The currently untitled sequel will see Tom Holland return to star with Jon Watts returning to direct along with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers writing the screenplay. Also returning are Zendaya and Marisa Tomei with Michael Keaton rumored to appear as well.
With Keaton’s Vulture behind bars, however, who will be Peter’s foe?
Jake Gyllenhaal, apparently.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Gyllenhaal is in talks with Marvel to star in the sequel as classic Spider-Man foe, Mysterio. In comics, Mysterio is Quentin Beck a Hollywood stuntman and illusionist who leaves Tinseltown behind to turn to a life of crime.
The sequel will be Gyllenhaal’s first time in a superhero movie. He was in talks to replace Tobey Maguire as Spider-Man at one point in time. His upcoming films are Velvet Buzzsaw and The Sisters Brothers.
Spider-Man: Homecoming‘s sequel will be released on July 5th, 2019.
