It felt that this moment would never arrive, but we finally have the first full teaser trailer for Bohemian Rhapsody which of course tells the story of Freddie Mercury and the band Queen.
The project seemed doomed to never happen, what with conflict who should play the truly iconic Queen frontman, and then once filming had started there had to be a change of director following Bryan Singer’s erratic behaviour. Luckily British director Dexter Fletcher took over at the last minute, and given that he was one of the originally mentioned directors for the project fans were breathing a sigh of relief.
However, all the drama of the movie production is behind us and all we are left with is the excitement that the movie will hit US cinemas on November 2 with UK fans getting the movie on October 24, and we have the first trailer with Mr Robot star Rami Malik playing Freddie Mercury flawlessly. In fact, in the trailer alone there were a couple of moments where we were left wondering if the producers had inserted stock footage of Mercury and Queen.
With the film synopsis and the new trailer, we will see the rise of Queen and how Mercury’s lifestyle impacted on the band and those around them.
“Bohemian Rhapsody is a foot-stomping celebration of Queen, their music and their extraordinary lead singer Freddie Mercury, who defied stereotypes and shattered convention to become one of the most beloved entertainers on the planet. The film traces the meteoric rise of the band through their iconic songs and revolutionary sound, their near-implosion as Mercury’s lifestyle spirals out of control, and their triumphant reunion on the eve of Live Aid, where Mercury, facing a life-threatening illness, leads the band in one of the greatest performances in the history of rock music. In the process, cementing the legacy of a band that were always more like a family, and who continue to inspire outsiders, dreamers and music lovers to this day.”
As well as Malik’s portrayal of Mercury, there has to be a mention for Gwilym Lee and Ben Hardy who play Brian May and Roger Taylor in the movie, as their resemblance to the real men is also remarkable. The movie also has the full support of Brian May and Roger Taylor, who are acting as producers on the movie, and if that is not a sign of a worthy movie to honour the memory of the late great Mercury then we don’t know what would.
Bohemian Rhapsody will hit US movie theatres on November 2, and will open in the UK on October 24.
