When the initial trailer for the new Disney movie Christopher Robin was released early last month, the main comment on the trailer was what an amazing job had been done with Winnie the Pooh. The willy nilly silly old bear looked like the classic E.H. Shepard drawings brought to life, and thanks to using Jim Cummings as the voice he is the bear we all know and love. The trailer brought me and many other fans to tears and we will probably cry multiple times in the movie itself.

For many fans, we were just waiting to see what the rest of the Hundred Acre Wood gang were going to look like.  Last night Entertainment Weekly answered our prayers and showed us some more photos from the movie which is due to be released on August 3 this year.

The new photos show Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger chilling out in the sun on Brighton beach complete with sunglasses and the whole gang look amazing. Each of the characters have retained their charm and beauty which was always present when looking at the illustrations done by Shepard.

The other photo shows Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor) taking Winnie the Pooh to work with him, and thanks to an interview with director Marc Forster (Finding Neverland) we learn further details as to why and how Pooh and the gang come back into the life of their oldest friend.
Forster tells us that although other people can see Pooh and the gang, Christopher Robin is the only person who can see them move and hear them speak; “they perceive them as stuffed animals. It’s not that they’re invisible.”

Talking about this different version of the bear with very little brains, the director summed it up perfectly saying; “He’s a mixture of toddler and old man, when you read the books and watch the animation. He has these Poohisms that land, but they are totally absurd. It always reminded me a little of Peter Sellers’ character Chauncey Gardiner from Being There.”

It will be interesting to hear the new voices for Pooh’s friends especially Chris O’Dowd as Tigger, and of course, we have yet to meet Rabbit (voiced by Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi).

Christopher Robin is released on August 3 and check out the trailer below because we all need something to make us smile every day.
