RuPaul’s Drag Race Recap: “PharmaRusical” Turns Into A Real Ho-Down

Hey Kitty Girls! The competition is getting fierce with a capital F this season, and we’re only on the second episode of the season. While last week’s premiere left some of the queens appropriately shook and even humbled some of them, this week’s episode up the ante as a fan fave fell slightly short of what was expected of her.

This week’s mini-challenge had the 13 remaining contestants transformed themselves into full-on country queens with Andy Cohen as the guest-judge of the mini challenge. The whole mini challenge was a bit of a mess to be honest, as the queens scrambled a bit to go country. Eureka thought she had this one in the bag (“I’m country as a motherf–ing biscuit!”), but was embarrassingly and very surprisingly outdone by the other queens. Asia O’Hara and The Vixen were ultimately named the winners, leaving the returning queen in shock.

For the maxi challenge, Asia and The Vixen, as the winners of the mini-challenge, were declared the team captains for the maxi challenge as the queens were tasked with doing a live stage musical titled “PharmaRusical”.

Team Asia O’Hara consisted of Aquaria, Dusty Ray Bottoms, Eureka, Kalorie Karbdashian Williams, Monique Heart, and Yuhua Hamasaki, whereas Team Vixen consisted of Blair St. Clair, Kameron Michaels, Mayhem Miller, Miz Cracker, and Monét X Change.  The two teams got off to different starts. Asia’s team nearly broke down completely twice, thanks to Eureka spending half the time bickering with her captain, and the other half suffering a full-blown PTSD down. On the other hand, Vixen’s team got along just fine but got read as they had nothing to show guest choreographer Alyssa Edwards when they hit the stage.

As for the runaway, the theme was “Very Best Drag.” On the main stage, several queens were read for their looks and left in their feelings as Team Vixen did the damn thing and were declared safe. I’d have to agree with the judges on the reading of the bottom queens here. I was not impressed at all.

That being said, here’s how everything played out.

Mini Challenge Winner: Asia O’Hara and the Vixen
Maxi Challenge:  PharmaRusical
Main Challenge Winner: the Vixen
Bottom Two: Kalorie Karbdashian Williams and Eureka
Lip-Sync For Your Life: “Best of My Love” by The Emotions
Shantay You Stay: Eureka
Sashay Away: Kalorie Karbdashian Williams

Personally, I would have sent both queens packing home after that lip sync for your life. Neither one of them gave it all, and I was thoroughly surprised Mama Ru didn’t give them both the boot.

Check in next week with us as my squirrel friend Kirsty will be back to read these queens in her recap!
