Fox’s 9-1-1 is definitely one of the most interesting procedurals on television today. Combining the calls and lives of L.A. first responders, it makes for big action set pieces mixed with moments of humanity. It’s also just a ride from start to finish.
One of those rides? It’s the romance between 9-1-1 operator Abby Clark (Connie Britton) and hot-head firefighter Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark). It’s actually one of the sweetest relationships on television. With Buck determined not to let his faults get in the way of romancing Abby, while Abby struggles with trying not to bring Buck too far into her baggage (her mother has late-stage Alzheimers).
In fact, the pair don’t even meet face to face on episode five. They grow their relationship over the phone after Abby helps Buck win his job back in episode one. I ship it. I ship it hard.
The season finale for 9-1-1 airs Wednesday on Fox, Oliver Stark spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Bucky and Abby’s relationship and more.
Stark, apparently, is the captain of the ship. He loves working with Connie Britton. (Let’s be real, who wouldn’t?) He also thinks that it’s something important to see on television due to the age difference between the characters.
“I think it’s refreshing to see on television because it’s not explored enough, but it’s a relationship that happens in real life and it’s a very common relationship, which we don’t see on. I think that fact that we’ve gone down that route and it’s not felt forced. I’m really honored to play opposite Connie Britton.”
I’m super hoping that they don’t break-up or something in the season finale.
As for the finale, Stark promises that fans will definitely enjoy it.
“It kind of puts an exclamation mark and a full stop, or a period, on everybody’s little story and everybody’s little arc, so it really does feel like an ending, so when we move forward into the second season, it’s a whole new beginning.”
There’s definitely been a lot going on for this characters in the first season.
9-1-1 airs its season finale Wednesday 9/8c on FOX.
