Get ready for a lot more voodoo, ghosts, and mysterious spirits on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow!

It certainly seems like The CW has become as big a fan of dark magic as the audience has. It has been announced that Matt Ryan’s John Constantine will be a permanent addition to the team, that is if Legends of Tomorrow will be renewed for a fourth season.

John Constantine first appeared in the Arrowverse on Arrow, where he introduced Oliver Queen to mystical powers in the flashbacks of season four and helped him return Sara Lance’s soul to her in the present.

Matt Ryan first took on the role of John Constantine in the NBC series with the same name, which was promptly cancelled after one season. Fans have demanded the demon hunters return to television, which resulted in his brief stint on Arrow, as well as his previous appearances on Legends of Tomorrow.

The news comes just in time to celebrate Constantine’s third appearance on Legends in tonight’s episode “Necromancing the Stone”. The official synopsis teases that Constantine’s return is closely linked to Sara’s struggle with demon Mallus:

“THE POWER WITHIN — When Mallus’ power over Sara (Caity Lotz) resurfaces, she unwittingly becomes the bearer of one of the Totems. Rory (Dominic Purcell) must conquer his dark side in order to wield his own Totem power to help save the crew. Meanwhile, Agent Sharpe (guest star Jes Macallan) notices that something is wrong and recruits someone unorthodox to help.”

Matt Ryan’s promotion to series regular may be bound to the condition of a fourth season of Legends of Tomorrow, but seeing as the series is amongst The CW’s most popular, a renewal seems likely. Especially so since The CW has added a full night of programming on Sunday nights. It will be exciting to have Constantine around full time. He will bring a specific kind of darkness and mysteriousness to the show that it could definitely benefit from.

However, you win some, you lose some. Does this mean we will have to say goodbye to another member of the team before the season is over?

How do you feel about this permanent addition to the team? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Catch DC’s Legends of Tomorrow Mondays at 8/7c on The CW.
