Captain Marvel is currently filming.
While the snapshots from the set look interesting, there is a mid-switch casting shuffle to contend with.
DeWanda Wise, who was cast in an undisclosed role, left the movie. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this was due to scheduling conflicts. Wise plays the lead role of Nola Darling in She’s Gotta Have It. Captain Marvel conflicts with the second season filming of the Netflix show.
Luckily, however, Marvel has no shortage of actors interested in joining their movies. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Lashana Lynch has joined the film in Wise’s former.
Lynch is best-known for her role of Rosalie in the Shondaland period drama, Still Star-Crossed. The show only lasted seven episodes on ABC in summer 2017.
Marvel did not comment on this casting change. They also, however, have not revealed the role that Lynch has taken over. So Marvel is remaining frustratingly tight-lipped.
Mississippi Grind duo Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are directing the 90’s set film which is Marvel’s first female fronted movie. Brie Larson stars with Jude Law and Ben Mendelsohn. Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role as Nick Fury with both of his eyes functioning.
Captain Marvel will be released on March 8th, 2019.
