There have been mixed feelings among the fans of the Millennium series regarding a new movie and even a new book. After all, The Girl in the Spider’s Web was not written by the author of the first three books, Stieg Larsson. Larsson passed away in 2004. Yet Sony has decided to try to relaunch the franchise and produce The Girl in the Spider’s Web for the big screen. It will star none other than The Crown actress Claire Foy as Lisbeth Salander.
While filming is already well underway in Berlin and Stockholm, Variety has exclusively revealed two more actors who will join the cast alongside Claire Foy, Sverrir Gudnason, who will play Mikael Blonkvist, Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), who will play Lisbeth’s twin sister, and Claes Bang (The Square), who will play the villian.
Stephen Merchant (Logan) and Synnove Macody Lund, who is more well-known for her Scandinavian projects, are going to join the sequel of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Though there has been no mention of who they will be playing respectively.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web has not been previously adapted for the big screen and it will be the first in the series that will be initially adapted into an English-language movie, as the first three movies had been initially adapted into Swedish before the 2011 remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo which starred Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig in the main roles.
The script has been written by Steven Knigh, Fede Alvarez and Jay Basu, and – of course – it is based on David Lagercrantz’s book of the same name.
The movie is set to be released on November 9th, so just a few months away. Hopefully, we will get more details on who these new additions to the cast will play in it. As per usual, we at 4YE will keep you updated with any news regarding The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
