Humans’ Gemma Chan Joins Captain Marvel In Kree Role

From synth to alien, Gemma Chan is putting together a pretty boss roster of sci-fi characters. (Not as impressive as Zoe Saldana, but still good.)

Deadline reports that Chan, best known as conscious synth Anita/Mia in the Channel 4/AMC show Humans, has joined the cast of Captain Marvel. She’s joined it in a pretty big way. The actress will be playing Doctor Minnerva, a.k.a. Minn-Erva from the Kree alien race.

In comics, Minn-Erva is a chief antagonist again our good Captain Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). Although, it’s possible that the two could be friendly in the movie. Just because a character is a villain in the comics, doesn’t automatically make them one in the MCU.

Plus the chief villains in the film are the Skrulls. If memory serves correctly, then the Kree and Skrulls hate each other. So it’s entirely possible that in this film, Minn-Erva could be working with Danvers.

Far as we know, Ben Mendelsohn (Mississippi Grind) will be our bad guy in the film.

Chan took to Twitter to share her excitement.

In addition to Larson and Mendelsohn, Chan will also join Samuel L. Jackson and Jude Law.

Captain Marvel is another feather in the cap for the actress. Later this year, she will be seen in the big screen adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians followed by Mary Queen of Scots.

Captain Marvel comes out in 2019.
