When Guardians of the Galaxy burst on to our screens in 2014, it was a punch between the eyes.

James Gunn had given us something totally unique to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It was a story wasn’t set on Earth that revolved around some lesser known Marvel stablemates. Let’s not forget that the mind blowing soundtrack choice was almost as big a hit as the movie itself.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 took it one step further, adding hurt-yourself-laughs coupled with tear-shedding moments mixed with an even more epic soundtrack.

Guardians Vol 3 has been announced! During a recent Facebook Live Q&A, Gunn did reveal that the third installment will be a lot different from what we’ve come to expect of Star Lord and his traveling companions.

The question came up repeatedly from fans.

Gunn said “It’s very, very, very different. Very different, but I won’t say how! You’ll have to wait to see the movie, it’s a long time away.”

We now know that Thor crash lands on the Guardians of the Galaxy’s ship in Avengers: Infinity War thanks to a trailer that played at Disney’s D23 expo. No one of course knows the context of that or if that was their first meeting.
Gunn has said previously that the third Guardians film will be the final installment for this specific team.

“We know that Guardians Vol. 3 is the end of this group of Guardians. So, that’s that,” Gunn said. “I don’t know what I’m going to do if I’m going to stick around at Marvel, if I’m going to do something else, I don’t know where I’m going to go. I haven’t decided yet.”

The other big news came via a fan who tweeted Gunn the following:

There was a moment when there was a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly    cried out in joy.

So we we will all be eagerly awaiting to see what role Mark Hamill (hopefully) plays in the latest installment.

Avengers: Infinity War opens April 25th in Australia, April 27th in the UK and on May 4th in the USA
