If you had to ask me to name the top three upcoming DC movies I’m most excited about, then the list is fairly straightforward: Wonder Woman 2, Aquaman, and Shazam!
Shazam! is just simply something that I never thought would hit the big screen. The eponymous character (well know anyway, long story) has always had a special place in my heart. What kid didn’t want the power to turn into an adult and set things right? Ten-year-old Billy Batson can do just that with his endless well of empathy and his gentle nature.
Between what sounds like a picture perfect cast and a director that is clearly excited about the material he has to work with, Shazam! seems to have everything going for it.
Or, at least, dear God I hope so.
In general, the film’s released was slated for sometime in 2019. With casting done, however, fans can officially save the date.
Shazam! will hit screens come April 5th, 2019. Not quite a summer release, but also not in the middle of the iffy spring season. I can definitely see the wisdom in it. Plus the sooner I see this film, the better.
The film stars Asher Angel (Andi Mack) as Billy Batson, Zachary Levi (Chuck) will play Batson’s superpowered adult form, and Mark Strong (Kingsmen) will play the villain (reportedly Doctor Sivana). David F. Samberg (Lights Out) will direct the feature.
