It’s been the film Marvel fans have been crying out for for years. A stand alone film for one of the Avengers, Black Widow!
Yes finally we have word, viaThe Hollywood Reporter, that the first steps have been taken to bring Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanov, AKA Black Widow to the big screen.
It is reported that screenwriter Jac Schaeffer is reportedly set to pen the script for the project, which at this point is still in early development stages. Schaeffer’s credits include the upcoming Nasty Women, starring Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. She also wrote and directed the 2009 romantic sci-fi movie TiMER.
Natasha Romanov, the alter ego of Black Widow first appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Iron Man 2 in 2010 and Johansson has reprised the role in several MCU films including the Avengers movies and Captain America: Civil War. She is also set to appear in Avengers: Infinity War which is due out later this year.
It has been no secret from Marvel Studio Producer Kevin Feige and Johansson have both wanted to make a stand-alone movie as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And let’s face it the Russian Spy who becomes a superhero has a great origin story. The orphaned Romanov was trained to be a lethal weapon by the Soviet Intelligence and trained in the top secret ninja program called Hand, with her cover as a ballet dancer. We have already seen flashbacks of Natasha’s past in Civil War and Age of Ultron.
However before we get Black Widow, we will get Captain Marvel as filming is set to commence next month on that project. Starring Brie Larson, Jude Law, Samuel L. Jackson and DeWanda Wise the film is set to be released in March of 2019.
All I want from the Black Widow film is for ‘What happened in Budapest’ to be explained.
