Earlier this month, it was reported that Netflix was close to making a deal with Helena Bonham Carter to play Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II, in the third and fourth season of The Crown.
While nothing has been confirmed yet by Netflix, it looks like someone else of the popular Netflix original has taken it upon herself to confirm the news to fans.
On her Instagram, Vanessa Kirby, who played Princess Margaret in seasons one and two, has posted a picture of herself with Bonham Carter and added the caption “Honoured” to it. She also tagged the official Instagram account of The Crown. The news that Helena Bonham Carter is going to take over as Princess Margaret seems to be more than confirmed now. Netflix still has not officially confirmed yet.
It seems safe to assume that the actress will be playing Olivia Colman’s younger sister on the show. Now we can freak out over it.
The third and fourth season will be quite exciting for Princess Margaret. Although, it is probably more exciting for us and incredibly tragic for her. In the upcoming seasons, we will see her marriage to Antony Armstrong-Jones, played by Matthew Goode in season two, fail. The failure of her marriage, however, was also due to her five-year-long affair with Roddy Llewellyn, which started in 1973.
It will not be boring, that’s for sure! I am sure that Helena Bonham Carter will have fun portraying the Queen’s sister, once Netflix will confirm the casting news officially. But, at least, she already has one royal approval from Kirby. I am quite confident that we won’t have to wait much longer for the online streaming platform to confirm Bonham Carter’s involvement in the show as well.
