The sun is beating down, the cicadas are singing, the tinnies are cold and the Weber’s fired up… the perfect ingredients for an Australia Day Barbie. All across Australia today (January 26th), Aussies are gathering to mark our national day in a number of different ways: protests and remembrance ceremonies for the atrocities committed against our first peoples, citizenship ceremonies, heading to our golden beaches, lakes, rivers… basically any watering hole you can cool down in, and lots and lots of barbies. And what is Australia Day without an epic playlist of Aussie music.
For a very small nation (just over 24 million people), we’ve certainly left our mark on the music scene. From pub rock, pop, indie, and alternative to rap, country, R&B, and boy bands, we give it an Aussie go, with many succeeding on the world stage. Hey, we even managed to talk our way into the Eurovision Song Contest and there are few nations around the world further from Europe than the land Down Under.
As the perfect backdrop for your Australia Day celebrations, wherever you may be “spinning around the world”, chuck on our Australia Day playlist for a nostalgic trip down memory lane, a celebration of who we are today, or an introduction to some classic Aussie artists and songs. From Chisel and Midnight Oil to Sia and Keith Urban, Men at Work and The Divinyls to Troye Sivan and Iggy Azalea, we’ve got you covered.
