In recent years the city has hosted such iconic names as Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, and Celine Dion, so really it was only a matter of time till Lady Gaga added her name to the list of performers who have scored a Las Vegas residency. Rumours were put to rest on yesterday with the announcement that Gaga was heading to Sin City.

Taking to her Instagram account, over a series of posts the Mother Monster informed her close to 27 million followers that she was putting her name up in lights at the MGM Park Theater for a two-year concert series.

“The rumors are true… I’m going to be a Las Vegas girl!…,” she wrote on the social media site, later adding, “I was made for this town, and I can’t wait to light up the Park Theater like never before!”.

Located at the Monte Carlo Resort & Casino, the theatre seats 5,300, and even though she has a two-year stint, tickets are likely to go fast for the show, which she promises to be “brand new”.

Gaga expanded on her excitement in a later press release saying, “It’s the land of Elvis, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra, the Rat Pack, Elton John, Judy Garland and Liza Minnelli. It has been a life-long dream of mine to play Las Vegas. I am humbled to be a part of a historical line-up of performers, and to have the honor of creating a new show unlike anything Vegas has ever seen before. I’ll tell you exactly what I told my MGM and Park Theater partners – you can count on this performer always for one thing…I’ll leave my heart on the stage every single night. Thank you to my fans for always believing in me. Meet me in Las Vegas baby, we did it!”

Having seen Gaga in concert a number of times now, I can definitely verify that. Given Gaga’s love of extravagant showmanship, as well as cabaret, she is the perfect fit for Vegas and I am excited to see what she will deliver.

While little has been released about the exact nature of her residency – such as opening night, how many shows she will be performing, let alone when tickets go on sale or the costs involved, the Park Theater’s Instagram account in publicising the announcement indicated that she will be a fixture from December 2018.
