It has been a while since we were introduced to all those fantastic beasts that Newt Scamander keeps an eye on and had to round up again after they got loose in New York City in the first installment of the movie franchise. While we already know what the title of the next movie around Newt Scamander will be and where it will be set, we haven’t heard anything about the beasts as yet. With the movie’s title Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, it seems to be a given that the beasts we came to adore will play a part in this movie as well.
David Heyman, executive producer of the movie, sat down with Entertainment Weekly and exclusively revealed that beasts will indeed feature in the movie, even though they are not the main focus of the plot.
“There are as many beasts in the film as in the first,” the executive producer said. “But the main driver in the first film was finding the beasts. That’s not the driver in this film, it’s not a central part of the plot. But beasts feature in the film and feature strongly.”
It makes sense though that the beasts will not be the sole focus of the second film, but that it will be mainly about Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp and presumably Dumbledore, played by Jude Law. However, we’re glad that they haven’t been forgotten.
So just which of the beasts will be making a return? Our Newt Scamander, better known as Eddie Redmayne has already revealed a little more about what beasts we will be seeing again and which beasts we will be introduced to:
“There’s a Chinese creature that’s formidable,” Redmayne teases. “There are some of the old favorites: The Niffler is back and causing havoc. As is Picket.”
Picket and the Niffler were definitely two creatures the audience enjoyed the most and I am sure that everyone cannot wait to see them again and to see what mischief they get up to next.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will hit theaters on November 16, 2018.
