Last month, the news broke that Colin Trevorrow had exited from Star Wars: Episode IX. A few days later, it was announced that JJ Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens, will take over duties for the final entry in the latest film trilogy. This will make Abrams the only other director, outside of George Lucas, to handle multiple films.
While Trekkies may be less than happy with Abrams after Into Darkness, the reaction amongst the internet to Abrams return was fairly positive to his return. It’s probably because The Force Awakens is a good film.
Cast and crew have also welcomed Abrams return to close out the revitalized franchise. One of the new stars of the latest trilogy, actual human ray of sunshine John Boyega, talked about Abrams’ return with CinemaBlend.
He (jokingly) took credit for Abrams return.
“Yeah, I’m really happy, really excited. I actually sent him an email and asked him if the real reason is because he misses me. And I think that’s what it is; that’s the only reason why he came back, and I appreciate that.”
Never change, Boyega.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi, directed by Rian Johnson, will be in theatres December 15th of this year. Episode IX will hit screens December 20th, 2019.
