Grammy Winner Jill Scott Joins Black Lightning Cast As Lady Eve

Black Lightning continues a very interesting casting choice. Casting musicians as villains? I have to admit that would make for a fascinating hypothetical musical episode.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Grammy winner Jill Scott will join the cast as DC Comics villain Lady Eve.

Scott is best known for such songs as “Gettin’ in the Way” and “Hate On Me”. Previously, Scott has acted in 2012’s Steel MagnoliasWhy Did I Get Married, and The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. While this is her first time playing a bad guy, this is not Scott’s first comic role. She voiced Storm/Ororo Munroe in BET’s Black Panther.

In the show, Lady Eve is described as “the bridge between Tobias Whale (L.A. rapper Marvin “Krondon” Jones III)and a secret group of corrupt leaders. Always a consummate professional, Scott’s onscreen alter ego presents herself in Freeland as the owner of a funeral parlor, but quickly becomes an adversary to Black Lightning (Cress Williams)”.

She definitely sounds badass. I’m excited to see what Scott will bring to the role.

Also excited? Showrunner and executive producer, Salim Akil who commented on Scott’s casting in a statement.

“Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and give them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex. I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve.”

The more that I know about this cast, the more I want to see this show. Alas, it’s still awhile away!

Black Lightning will hit the CW in 2018.
