Ever since Netflix had released The Crown on its streaming services, everyone had been wondering if Queen Elizabeth II would watch it or not. After all, it is her life they are depicting in the show! I would be curious to see what they have done with it if I was her (I wish!).
There is, however, one person who would not like the Queen to watch the show. It is none other than the actress who portrays the monarch, Claire Foy.
The Golden Globe winner sat down with the folks of Town & Country for their October issue. She revealed why she doesn’t want the Queen to watch the show about her life. Actually? It makes perfect sense.
“When you’re playing a real person, you never want to be ghoulish,” she said. “I don’t want to pick apart a person. I want to invent someone. So I would hate for her to watch it and think I overdramatized anything.”
I don’t think that she did. Let’s be real, her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II was just fantastic. I also haven’t been in the room(s) where it all happened back then.
Despite rumors that the monarch did, in fact, watch the show and liked it.
Foy has her own thoughts about it:
“I decided a long time ago that she’d never see it,” she reveals. “If she ever rings me up and tells me that she’s watched, then I will think differently.”
Let’s hope the Queen will ring her soon and tell her what a great job she did on the show.
Sadly though, Foy will not be returning for season three and neither will Matt Smith or the other actors in the first two seasons. All of them will be replaced by older actors as the show moves along in time. We are, however, not the only ones who are in denial about that. The actress admits to the same.
“I’m in massive denial,” she says. “I don’t feel like it’s over. I’m waiting for it to hit me at some point that this stage of my life is finished, but it hasn’t happened yet.”
Luckily, at least for us she is still our Queen and we have a bit longer to bid her and the rest of the cast farewell, but we will do so following her attitude about it: in massive denial (and lots of crying).
Claire Foy will return as Queen Elizabeth II in the second season of The Crown on December 8th on Netflix.
