Ever since Archie and company hit the CW with Riverdale, fans have been wondering if we will see Sabrina the Teenage Witch make an appearance.
Today, it was announced that a Sabrina the Teenage Witch show is in development at the CW.
Why? Well to the average non-comic person, Sabrina is probably the Archie Comics character everyone is most familiar with. After all, Sabrina the Teenage Witch was a sitcom that was mandatory viewing throughout the 90s.
What’s coming to the CW though? Well it isn’t that kind of light-hearted campy fun with a wisecracking cat.
No. Shit’s about to get real dark.
The property that Greg Berlanti and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who developed Riverdale, is based off The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which was written by Aguirre-Sacasa. It’s a super dark and twisted comic following the character growing up during the 1950s. (Actually I give it a recommendation for this time of year.) I do wonder how dark the show will get though.
The series is described as “a dark coming-of-age tale that involves witchcraft and the occult” with tones of Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. It will focus on “Sabrina battling evil forces while coming to terms with her identity as half-witch and half-mortal.”
I do have to wonder how dark the show will go in comparison to its comic counterpart.
This show is being considered as a companion to Riverdale as part of the 2018-19 season at the CW. Aguirre-Sacasa will return to pen the script with Lee Toland Krieger directing the pilot.
