Is The Han Solo Film Going To Feature The Falcon’s Famous Kessel Run?

Any Han Solo fan worth their weight in spice knows about the Kessel Run. Ever since Han oh so casually dropped into conversation with Ben Kenobi about his beloved Millennium Falcon’s feats doing the Run in A New Hope, we have been dying to see this part of the Star Wars galaxy. Now it appears that wait might finally be over.

Ever since Ron Howard took over directing duties for the as-yet-untitled Han Solo film this past summer, he has been teasing fans regularly posting behind-the-scenes pics from the film’s set. The latest post from September 21 seems to hint at the famous Run. It shows an entrance to a cave and is captioned with the single word: “Spicey?”

For those of you who might not be as up to speed on this little Star Wars factoid, let us enlighten you. The Kessel Run is a hyperspace route used by smugglers in order to get spice from the mines of Kessel out. In A New Hope, Han boasts that the Falcon is the ship that made the run in fewer than 12 parsecs – an incredible feat. Given the Solo project is about Han’s life pre-A New Hope, it would indeed be a waste to not showcase this event from his past.

Taking on the role of the smuggler is Alden Ehrenreich, with Donald Glover playing Lando Calrissian and Joonas Suotamo stepping into Chewbacca’s fur. Also in the cast are Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.

The Han Solo Star Wars tale is due for release in cinemas May 25, 2018.
