Battle of the Sexes is probably one of the most anticipated movies this year. It tells the story of Billie Jean King (Emma Stone), who fights for equality for women in the tennis world, while simultaneously fighting an inner battle. When Bobby Riggs (Steve Carell) suggests a match, she cannot say no to, as it might get her the desired equality in the sport: “Male chauvinist pig versus hairy legged feminist.”’
Shortly before the movie’s release in the US (September 22nd), Epic Records will release the new original song “If I Dare” by Sara Bareilles from the soundtrack of the movie.
“Billie Jean is one of the great leaders of our time,” said Bareilles about the protagonist of the movie.
“Her courage, her conviction, and her willingness to take risks in order to make change are part of what makes her so powerful. One pivotal chapter of her story comes to life so beautifully in the film, and I was honored to help write about it. Getting the opportunity to collaborate with Nick and his gorgeous score for the film, only made the project that much sweeter. We hoped to echo Billie Jean’s tremendous resilience in the face of adversity with the song, and capture some of her fierce drive and spirit.”
“If I Dare” was specifically written for the movie and I am sure it will add to it in the perfect way.
Nicholas Britell, who wrote the original score for Battle of the Sexes and co-wrote “If I Dare”, said that when he composed the score for the movie that was inspired by King’s story. He relished the idea of building musical emotions and rhythms into an original score for it.
“It was a truly remarkable experience getting to collaborate with Sara. Her amazing musicianship, coupled with her phenomenal lyrical intuition, brought this song into being.”
“If I dare” will be available for purchase and on all streaming platforms on September 15th, and we cannot wait to listen to it! It will also be shown at this year’s BFI London Film Festival and it made it on our list for movies we can’t wait to watch ourselves.
Battle of the Sexes will be released in selected theaters on September 22nd and has its nationwide release on September 29th.
