As writers, some of us will do anything to be published.
The world’s first, and currently only Billionaire author, JK Rowling has taken it one step further. Just to give some background, there is a much touted myth that Rowling wrote the original ideas for the world famous Harry Potter series on napkins while waiting for a delayed train in 1990. The author herself debunked that rumour several times over the years, but it still continues to pop up in stories.
The train part is true, the napkin part not so much.
In a recent interview on CNN, Rowling has revealed she has in fact used an atypical medium for her latest ‘work’. In celebration of her 50th Birthday back in 2015, she dug out a lost fairy tale and wrote it on a dress she wore to her party.
In the interview, Rowling said: “The theme of my 50th birthday, which I held at Halloween, even though that’s not really my birthday, was come as your own private nightmare, and I went as a lost manuscript. And I wrote over a dress most of that book. So that book, I don’t know whether it will ever be published, but it’s actually hanging in a wardrobe currently.”
Whether the story will ever see the light of day in print remains to be seen.
The revelation came when Rowling was discussing her charity Lumos, which works to help the millions of children in institutions worldwide regain their right to a family.
She was first brought to the plight reading a magazine article. Since her books have given her so much success, she felt it only right to do something good in the world. (Apart from getting thousands of children (and adults!) to read more.)
