Ever since Chris Evans took over the role of Captain America, it is kind of hard to imagine him as anyone else, or anyone else as our beloved Cap. However, all good things must come to an end, even though we really don’t want them to in this case.
There have been rumors before that Evans might leave his shield behind and even the storyline might suggest he will do soon too. These have once again come up following Chris Evans’ recent sit down with the UK’s The Telegraph where he hinted on his soon-ish departure from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“I had six films in my Marvel contract, so I could have said after the third Avengers I was done, but they wanted to make the third and fourth Avengers films as a two-parter,” he explains.
Given the fact that so many superheroes of Marvel are going to be in the next Avengers movie, it only makes sense to have split the movie into two. No one wants to see a rushed storyline and our favorites only appearing for like two seconds, after all.
“They said they had so many other characters to fit in — Guardians of the Galaxy, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant Man – and couldn’t get them all into one movie… It made sense. It’s going to wrap everything up.”
Of course, it will be nice to see our heroes ending their fight against evil, at least as the Avengers, but it is still very bittersweet. Especially given that it might be the last we see of Captain America.
Nevertheless, it will be interesting to see who will take over as the leader of the Avengers and if rumors are correct, it could be Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, which would also line up with the storyline of the comics. However, we have yet to find out if this is true or not.
The first part of Avengers: Infinity War will hit theaters in 2018, while the second part is set to be released in 2019, so we will have to be patient for just a tiny bit longer.
