Captain Marvel Finds Directors In Mississippi Grind Duo

Captain Marvel has its directors! What amazing news!

This announcement has been long in coming. I have heard so many different names bandied about that I was starting to think that the Brie Larson led film was never going to get a director attached.

Originally, Marvel wanted to announce the director for the 2019 at the end of 2016. This has not happened as we’re reporting on this in 2017.

Variety reported that Marvel has hired Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Mississippi Grind and It’s Kind of a Funny Story) to direct the feature. In addition to their film work, Fleck and Boden have directed episodes of The Affair and Billions. Marvel does seem to love directors who have had their hand at directing smaller scale films such as the Russo Brothers, James Gunn, and Jon Watts.

The script was written by Nicole Perlman (Guardians of the Galaxy ) and Meg LeFauve (Inside Out).

Perlman had this to say on the importance of Carol Danvers.

“I think that making sure that Captain Marvel is not somebody who is a hero in spite of her femininity is really important. She’s a very strong character and her being a woman is part of that strength.”

Captain Marvel will hit screens on May 8th, 2019.
