Can we just stop and talk about Idris Elba for a moment?

The Luther star is set to have another enormous year on film and television.

First of all, we were deligthed at the news that he will star in the adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark TowerHe plays Roland Deschain, the last of the Gunslingers, an order of knights and the story’s central character on his quest to find the fabled Dark Tower.

Next week, Elba is also taking over on the UK’s BBC Three, in a ground breaking season called The Idris TakeoverThe week’s programming will be shows he has either created or that appeal to him.

Elba said of the BBC Three production “There’s a part of me in every aspect of this season; comedy, drama, documentary, sport all made by a truly diverse team both on and off screen.”

Last, but not least, is the highly anticipated Thor: Ragnarok in which he will reprise his role of Heimdall.
Now fans of director Taiki Waititi will know he is renowned for his comedic ability, both on and off-screen. So when Digital Spy spoke to the British actor they asked what we all want to know: how funny is this movie going to be and will Heimdall be in on the gags?

Elba explained, “Heimdall isn’t funny. You haven’t heard Heimdall laugh, or crack too many jokes. But Taika has done a really amazing job of making all the characters have a bit of a funny moment, and I’m not spared. I’m looking forward to it.”

So that’s a yes.

Waititi is known for his comedy. He is also good at parlaying his characters with their sadness. There is no doubt that he will pay his respects to the original comics and other pop-culture references for all the heroes, including the stars Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston), in the third installment of the Thor series.

The Dark Tower opens in cinemas in the UK and Australia on July 27th and on the 28th in the USA .Thor: Ragnarok comes crashing in on  October 27th in the UK and Australia and  November 3rd in the USA
