Look away, look away because the villainous Count Olaf will be returning to Netflix. It was confirmed earlier this week that A Series of Unfortunate Events has been renewed for a second season, with Neil Patrick Harris returning as the amoral Count.
The news was announced in a letter from Lemony Snicket warning us that more horror and sadness will befall the Baudelaire children, and that the series is only continuing against all warnings to the contrary. Kudos must be given to the marketing for this series as every announcement has been made in a fantastic and interesting way. There was also an Instagram post, which was as mysterious and complex as the story of the Baudelaire children.
It is believed that the second season will cover the plot of the books The Austere Academy, The Ersatz Elevator, The Vile Village, The Hostile Hospital, and possibly The Carnivorous Carnival. If season 2 follows the pattern of the first season, each book will be covered over two episodes of the season.
There is no doubt that A Series of Unfortunate Events has been a huge hit for Netflix and to see them continue the saga is a brilliant move, for adults and children alike.
Neil Patrick Harris celebrated the renewal of the show in a special and different way, by getting a tattoo of the mysterious symbol Count Olaf has on his right ankle, which is exactly where Harris had his tattoo. Harris shared the photo on Instagram with the hashtag #scampstamp, so I can’t wait to see the first unveiling of Olaf’s ankle in the new season.
There is no news regarding when filming will recommence or when season two will hit Netflix, but I would not be surprised if we will have to wait until the beginning of 2018.
In the meantime we can all relive the action from season one on Netflix any time we like.
