Benedict Cumberbatch is well known for the fact that he doesn’t need a lot of rest. This is certainly evident in the fact that he already has a handful of projects lined up for the next few months.

That list of projects won’t get shorter any time soon, as Cumberbatch has just signed up for a new movie.

Deadline reported that the British actor will be the executive producer, as well as star in the upcoming BBC One and Masterpiece adaptation of Ian McEwan’s novel The Child In Time.

In the 90-minute one-off drama written by Stephen Butchard, Cumberbatch will portray Stephen Lewis, a successful children’s book author whose daughter suddenly goes missing.

The forthcoming movie will deal with the dark territory his marriage undergoes during that terrible time. Their daughter’s absence will see Stephen and his wife on diverging paths as they both struggle to deal with the all-consuming grief coming out of that loss.

The actor has already read the novel and was very taken with it, as he has revealed:

“I read the novel years ago and it stayed with me — profound, beautiful and very moving. Only Ian McEwan could write about loss with such telling honesty. We’re very excited to have Stephen Butchard’s subtle and brilliant adaptation, and in Julian Farino we have an extraordinary director who delivers emotional truth. I’m so proud The Child In Time will be the first drama produced by SunnyMarch TV [co-founded by Cumberbatch].”

However, not only has the main lead of the upcoming movie has found praise for the upcoming production, but the author of the novel has as well.

“I am thrilled to have my novel in the hands of such a high level creative team. I have fond memories of Benedict playing a brilliant and key part in the movie adaptation of Atonement. Now, it’s a great honor to have this actor of such immense resource, experience and subtlety in the lead role of The Child In Time,” McEwan said.

A release date for The Child In Time has not been announced yet and it might take a while until we get to see the adaptation, as Cumberbatch is currently filming The Current War and Thor: Ragnarok. However, we will keep you posted about any updates regarding The Child In Time.
