4YE Quick List: Five Films Not To Miss In February

There is a lot coming out this February across the pond in the cinemas (Bless the new year!). To help you figure out what to head out to the cineplex to watch, here is a list of the films that we thought you shouldn’t miss, all coming out next month!

1. The Space Between Us

Described as a “Romeo & Juliet” story, this film centers on the first human born on Mars. It’s an adventure and love story. Gardner Elliot is the first human born on Mars. His mother, one of the astronauts, is pregnant. Shortly after landing on the Red Planet, she dies from complications while giving birth. No one knows who the father is. Gardner starts to search for clues about his father, and the home planet he’s never known. While doing this, he starts an online friendship with a girl named Tulsa from Colorado. When he finally gets a chance to go to Earth, he’s eager to experience all of the wonders he could only read about on Mars – from the most simple to the extraordinary. But once his explorations begin, scientists discover that Gardner’s organs can’t withstand Earth’s atmosphere.

Eager to find his father, Gardner escapes the team of scientists and joins with Tulsa on a race against time to unravel the mysteries of how he came to be, and where he belongs in the universe.

In the leading roles, we have Asa Butterfield as Gardner and Britt Robertson as Tulsa. This is a film not to miss because it’s an extraordinary love story influenced by the simple fact that the two lovers are living totally different lives.

The Space Between Us comes out on February the 10th in the UK.

2. Rings

We’re going to see The Big Bang Theory  star Johnny Galecki on the big screen this February in the successful horror film franchise Rings. It returns with a contemporary take on the cursed videotape. A young woman becomes worried about her boyfriend when he explores a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious videotape said to kill the watcher seven days after he has viewed it. She sacrifices herself to save her boyfriend and in doing so makes a horrifying discovery: there is a “movie within the movie” that no one has ever seen before… That sounds kinda interesting, right? It’s probably nothing for people they don’t like horror films. Alongside Johnny Galecki a few other faces joined the cast like Alex Roe, Matilda Lutz, Aimee Teegarden and Zach Roerig.

If you liked the other films of the franchise, and you don’t want to miss out the new Rings film, be sure to make plans to see it in theaters this February. Rings comes out on February the 3rd.

3. The LEGO Batman Movie

If you’re a LEGO Movie lover and/or you like Batman a lot, you’re sure going to love this too. The storyline is described as the following: The Dark Knight, the Caped Crusader – Batman is the crime fighting vigilante everyone can count on to save the day. When Gotham City is threatened once again, the brooding, heavy-metal rapping machine is forced to work with a new police commissioner and a certain young orphan to save the day. Will he find that working alone isn’t all it’s cracked up to be? Maybe the Dark Knight will learn to work as part of a team, finding new friends and happiness along the way.

But if we know one thing for sure than that the spinoff of 2014 film The Lego Movie, based on the DC Comic’s character, will be funny. That’s what the different trailers revealed. And watching this movie is probably the best way to kill time waiting for the Justice League film.

And by the way, the cast of the voice actors is amazing. Michael Cera (Robin), Will Arnett (Batman), Zach Galifianakis (Joker), Ralph Fiennes (Alfred) and Mariah Carey (Mayor Marion Grange) are all in.

The LEGO Batman Movie hits theaters at february the 10th.

4. A Cure for Wellness

This film seems like it will be a good psychological thriller. An ambitious young executive is sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from an idyllic but mysterious “wellness center” at a remote location in the Swiss Alps. He soon suspects that the spa’s miraculous treatments are not what they seem. When he begins to unravel its terrifying secrets, his sanity is tested, as he finds himself diagnosed with the same curious illness that keeps all the guests here longing for the cure. An as a little fun fact: Gore Verbinski is the film director and he was also the director of The Ring in 2002. I’m super excited for this movie because of it’s mysteries and because of Dane DeHaan and Jason Isaacs. Good genre, good story, good actors. There are a few films that also had these things but went on to be bad, I know. But let’s give this film a chance – it could be a masterpiece.

A Cure for Wellness comes out on the 17th of February.

5. Hidden Figures

Here’s to the hearts and the brains. Hidden Figures is an American biographical drama film directed by Theodore Melfi and written by Melfi and Allison Schroeder, based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Margot Lee Shetterly about female African-American mathematicians at NASA. But even though not every one of us is so into math like these strong women characters, I’m sure the film is going to be impressive and emotionally on the highest level. The story deals with the role of blacks and women and especially black women in the society during that time. Seeing such movies and understanding these stories gives us the chance to see how far we have come and where we need to go next.

Hidden Figures already got 3 nominations for the Oscars this year, and it’s sure one of the films you shouldn’t miss this february. Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monáe, Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst and Jim Parsons are all waiting for you.

Hidden Figures comes out in the UK on the 17th of February.
