It would be somewhat of an understatement to say that all of the 4YE crew are eagerly awaiting the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.  We’re so excited, that we booked our tickets weeks ago!

Written by JK Rowling, the creator of the Wizarding World as we know it, Fantastic Beasts is her first screenplay. It follows on the tails of the huge success of the recent stage production Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

In even more news for fans, Fantastic Beasts, which was originally supposed to be three films, has been expanded to FIVE!  Yes, ladies and gents, FIVE FILMS!  Even better is that director David Yates is on board for the whole ride.

Yates told The Hollywood Reporter that he has signed on with Warner Bros for the entire series of prequels to the Harry Potter films. Yates also directed four of the original octology: Order of The Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, and both installments of Deathly Hallows.

At the world premiere last week Yates said, “I love making films, and I’ve got a great team, all of whom are like family.”

Fantastic Beasts stars Eddie Redmayne as magi-zoologist Newt Scamander.  Set in New York in the 1920’s it’s the tale of when things get a bit out of hand between the magical and muggle worlds.

Rowling also plans to pen the screenplays for the remaining four films, and is putting the finishing touches on them.  Yates said the sequel already feels different from the first film: “(It’s)Much more haunting, like a dream. What she’s doing is really interesting; she’s not repeating herself.”

The second film is  in pre-production with sets being created in Paris and Watford in the UK.  We will see the young and openly gay Albus Dumbledore and his rival Gellert Grindelwald, played by Johnny Depp.   The sequel is due to hit cinemas in late 2018.

Though Rowling said the most difficult part about writing her first screenplay was learning to do so. She isn’t intimidated about the four that follow.
“I’m never complacent — I’m always feeling like I gotta do my best work, and I’m always pretty hard on myself,” she told THR. “We’ve set ourselves an ambitious story to tell in five movies, but it’s going to be challenging and exciting — all the things I like.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them also stars Gemma Chan and Ezra Miller as well as Colin Farrell, Ron Perlman and Jon Voight.

It opens in cinema’s on November 17th in Australia, and the 18th in the UK and USA.
