Warner Bros. has given the release date for their Bradley Cooper helmed remake of A Star Is Born as September 28th 2018, according to Deadline

A Star Is Born has had a few remakes over the years.

Its first appearance was in 1937 with Janet Gaynor and Fredric March, directed by William Wellman and Jack Conway. The 1954 version was directed by George Cukor starred Judy Garland and James Mason, and a rock version in 1976 starred Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand, directed by Frank Pierson.

Expect a glittering bang-up-to-date remake here with, Golden Globe winner and Academy Award nominee, Lady Gaga making her big-screen debut as the lead.

Originally conceived by Hollywood producer David O. Selznick as a no-holds-barred behind the scenes of Hollywood life, the story revolves around a young singer and actress, Esther, who catches the eye of John, a fading Hollywood Icon struggling with alcoholism. He mentors her, and the two fall in love and marry.   Esther’s career takes off in a big way, while her husband’s declines and he drinks himself into oblivion. Esther is left finally with the choice between furthering her career and saving her husband.

Lady Gaga was approached for the project in June. Beyonce was previously rumoured for the role, but declined due to scheduling conflicts. The film then got the go-ahead in August after Lady Gaga was confirmed for the project. It is currently in pre-production with filming scheduled to start early in 2017.

Academy Award nominee Bradley Cooper (Silver Linings Playbook, American Sniper) will star alongside Gaga. He will also make his directorial debut. Clint Eastwood had originally planned to direct, with Cooper taking the male lead. After a few years of struggling to get it off the ground, Eastwood dropped the project, suggesting Cooper take the helm. Eastwood retains a producer credit alongside Cooper.

Cooper is also co-writing the film, alongside Will Fetters (The Lucky One, The Best Of Me),  while Lady Gaga will be writing and performing songs for the film.
