The youngest of the Sanderson sisters has finally chimed in on the rumors of a sequel to the cult classic Hocus Pocus, and her response was everything we hoped it would be and more.
According to Sarah Jessica Parker during her weekend appearance on Watch What Happens Live, “I would love that. I think we’ve all been fairly vocal about being very keen but that hasn’t created any groundswell of movement.”
Did you hear that people? Even the third Sanderson sister would love a sequel!
Hocus Pocus starred Parker, Bette Midler, and Kathy Najimy as the twisted Sanderson sisters. The three sisters were brought back to life by the magical Blake Flame Candle to reek havoc on Halloween and steal the souls of children. The entire premise of the film was kind of dark, and Parker’s song still haunts me to this day!
The sad news is that the Sanderson sisters have no power over the sequel. According to Midler last year, she said, “if you want a Hocus Pocus 2, ask the Walt Disney company.”
Midler also addressed sequel potential last November during a Facebook Q&A. “After all these years and all the fan demand,” she wrote, “I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unequivocal no.”
However, I am not losing hope for this cult classic. It made my childhood. It helped me love Halloween and I will fight for it until the day I die. So, Hocus Pocus fandom, let’s stand up for our right to fright. Okay – that was corny, but you all know what I meant.
