Leonardo DiCaprio And Glen Powell Are Looking To Bring Captain Planet To The Big Screen

It’s no secret that the 90s are making a comeback thanks to Hollywood and its never-ending remakes and reboots. Luckily this time, the news floating around doesn’t involve a remake or reboot but a story that has not made it onto the big screen just yet.

The word on the street is that Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way is looking to bring 90s favorite Captain Planet to the big screen. Appian Way is currently looking to team up with Paramount to bring Cap and his Planeteers to a cinema near you.

Paramount is currently in talks for the rights to the 1990s cartoon series, and is eyeing Jono Matt and Scream Queens star Glen Powell to write the script, according toThe Hollywood Reporter. It is unknown at this time whether Powell will also be acting in the film should it make it to theaters.

For those needing a refresher, Captain Planet and the Planeteers was a TV show that aired from September 1990 to December 1992. It centered on five young people from around the world who were given magical rings that had the power to control natural elements (Earth, Wind, Fire, Water, and Heart). When their powers combined, they were able to summon Captain Planet, a superhero who helped them fight against environmental evils.

Given DiCaprio’s reputation for being an well-known environmentalist who often speaks out on issues such as global warming, the series and its themes seem like a natural fit.

That being said, here’s hoping they do not make Captain Planet live-action; some things are better left alone or at least left to the animated world. This has the potential to big an epic mistake if done incorrectly.
