The greatest thing about Disney and Lucasfilm being one is that they will give us a yearly dose of Star Wars for a while – our wallets won’t be pleased, but our hearts surely will.

In between Episodes of the saga, we will have the Anthology series, starting in December with Rogue One, which follows a group of rebel fighters with the mission of stealing the plans to build the Death Star. This movie is set between Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Episode IV: A New Hope, meaning we will see a few familiar faces here and there and we will also meet new characters.

Because it’s a Star Wars movie, there will obviously be droids that we will love with all our hearts, starting with K-2SO (played by Alan Tudyk) who we finally had the pleasure of seeing in the latest trailer, but there’s another droid that looks strangely familiar.

Its name is C2-B5, and it’s an Imperial astromech droid that resembles our beloved R2-D2 but darker. In every possible way.

C2 was revealed on this week’s episode of Lucasfilm’s The Star Wars Show, and it looks like this droid might reveal more about how the Empire treats its droids (it probably isn’t nice so get ready for the feels. You know these droids give us more feels than their human friends). Host Peter Townley added that, as it’s an Imperial droid, C2 requires periodical memory wipes to ensure loyalty. Right in the feels.

In terms of aesthetic, I am truly digging this dark droid (or “goth R2-D2”, however you want to call it) – can I please have every figure, plushie, and everything that has C2-B5 on it? Please and thank you.

Based on the details we know about Rogue One’s plot, it all points at the droids being key to the mission against the construction of the Death Star.

(Friendly reminder that K-2SO was also an Imperial droid but its memory was wiped by Cassian my love Andor and now works with the rebels.)

It was about time the droids got a bit more attention, don’t you think?

Rogue One will be released on December 16th.
