A while ago, we reported that the fourth Avengers film which was previously called The Avengers: Infinity War Part 2, would be renamed. This meant that the Infinity War would take place in the third Avengers film, as a stand alone film.
While I for one, am very happy about this update, but I know a lot of people want to know why there was a change of name for the film and what it means for the movie franchise as a whole. All we have to go on so far is that now “the movies are very very different from one another. It’s not part one part two scenario, necessarily.” Well now we know a tad more.
When the film’s directors, the Russo Brothers were speaking to Cinema Blend about the upcoming release of Captain American: Civil War on DVD and Blu-ray, they were asked about the change of name, to which Joe Russo replied, “We wanted the movie to be very different and distinctive, you know. There’s certainly cross-pollination between characters and some story-arcs, but you know, the first movie is very clearly Avengers: Infinity War and, in time, we will reveal what the second film is.”
Sadly it seems like we will have to wait a while until we discover what the fourth film will be called, with Anthony Russo saying that the announcement won’t happen “for quite some time” we will have plenty of time to get those theories ready about what our heroes have in store in Avengers 4.
It is no surprise that the studio is keeping the new title a secret. No doubt Marvel/Disney want to keep it under wraps for as long as possible to avoid spoiling the fans. This is especially the case because sometimes there is no way to avoid certain spoilers – you just have to look at when Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron were confirmed. In these instances, fans who had a knowledge of the comics knew what was coming which can’t really be avoided no matter how much the studios try, right?
Rest assured fellow Marvel fans as we will keep you posted when the title is confirmed and any other updates that may follow!
The Avengers: Infinity War is in cinemas May 4 2018 followed by its sequel that will be released on May 3 2019.
