The CW certainly loves to keep it in the family when it comes to its casting. And by family, we meant the network family. Many of the shows on the network share this guest stars, and it looks like The Flash is snagging an alum from The Vampire Diaries.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Susan Walters, who played Tyler Lockwood’s mother on the vampire drama (before she was infamously murdered by Klaus on Christmas), is set to play yet another mother, Caitlin Snow’s mother to be exact, on The Flash.

Since she was mentioned in season 2 by both Caitlin Snow and her alter ego Killer Frost (both played by Danielle Panabaker), viewers have been dying to find out more about Caitlin’s mother. It was noted by Frost and Snow that their relationship with their respective mothers weren’t the best ones.

What is known so far about her mother is not much. For starters, Dr. Carla Tannhauser is a world class biomedical engineer and CEO of a major research company. The fact that the mother-daughter duo do not share the same last name speaks volumes, and according to EW, “the two have long had a difficult relationship, with Caitlin finding her mother cold and withholding, and Carla regarding her daughter as rebellious and ungrateful.”

Perhaps Caitlin was close to her father?

Walters is only scheduled so far to be one episode but does have the potential to become recurring.

When The Flash returns, all bets are off as “Flashpoint” has begun already. The world of Barry Allen and company has been turned completely upside down thanks to Barry racing back in time to save his mother. Whether Caitlin’s mom will be her mother in the normal world or the Flashpoint world remains to be seen.

The Flash will return in October on the CW.
