We’re in the final stretch of Game of Thrones, with the hit HBO show expected to finish after two more seasons. This means we can expect Daenerys to fly in on her dragons, team up with the new King of the North Jon Snow, and rescue Westeros from both Cersei Lannister and the ever-looming threat of the magical White Walkers, right?
Er, no. When Jon Snow AKA Kit Harington spoke to The Hollywood Reporter from the set of his next movie The Death and Life of John F. Donovan, he struck a typically brooding note.
Although the actor stressed that he is yet to see any scripts and that he is only relying on guesswork, he made it clear that he believes things are going to get “very bleak” before and if there is a happy ending. “I think it’s going to get very dark before it gets better,” he said, ominously.
According to Harington, we could finally get to see the White Walkers and their Army of the Dead menace the wider realm. “I think with the whole ‘winter is finally here’ business, it means everyone is going to have a really bad time.”
Naturally – although Jon will probably spend more time worrying about his sister Sansa and her slippery ally Littlefinger than the White Walkers!
Harington also told THR that he was “thrilled” to land his first ever Emmy nomination, and it’s clear that his thoughts are turning to his career post-GOT.
“This mammoth, goliath event in my life, which has so much of what my 20s are, is going to come to an end. I think I’m going to really make the effort in these next two years to enjoy every moment of it,” he said.
It definitely sounds as if the actor expects the show to finish after season eight, despite recent confusion.
Game of Thrones returns to HBO in the summer of 2017 with a shortened season of seven episodes.
