Is it December yet?
I jumped into the Star Wars universe last year with Episode VII, aka The Force Awakens, with bow blasters blazing.
I’ve yet to go back and watch the previous six films, but I hope to continue my deep dive into the universe with the new Rogue One. Who can deny how amazing this film looks? I know plenty of long time fans were worried when LucasFilms LTD was acquired by Disney, but Disney has flipped this franchise upside down, breathed new life in it, and launched it into the stratosphere of pop culture. Hopefully this trend continues because I’m gonna be honest, the next standalone film focusing on a young Han Solo is not impressing me yet. (I’m looking at you casting department.)
Anyway, tonight during Olympics coverage, Disney is releasing the brand new trailer for Rogue One. While I don’t understand the need for a teaser trailer for a full trailer, there’s no doubt that we’ve already got looks at new characters and the suspense to tide us over.
We also got the present of a rather epic synopsis which hints at hope and undercurrent of extraordinary feats for what’s soon to be our new favorite band of Rebels.
The synopsis is as follows:
From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
The film stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, Diego Luna as Captain Cassian, and our favorite character actor Alan Tudyk as the droid K-2SO. Hopefully, with this new trailer tonight, we’ll get a glimpse of Darth Vader, who is, thankfully, being voiced once again by the delightful James Earl Jones.
Rogue One is set to debut on December 16th of this year. To tide you over, here is that teaser for the trailer I was telling you about.
Shelby started writing at the age of 13 and has been hooked ever since. She's currently going to school at ATU for Creative Writing and English with a minor in Film Studies. She hopes to one day be a professor of film, a film critic, and a screenwriter. (Can you tell she likes the movies?)
She hopes to walk the red carpet one day. She contributes a long list of friends, co-workers, professors, and writers as the inspiration for her dreams and goals.
You can find Shelby on Twitter, Tumblr, and Facebook.
