James Gunn’s The Belko Experiment Will Premiere At TIFF

James Gunn has been working non-stop in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 but in-between Guardians movies he unveiled a new project: The Belko Experiment, penned by him and directed by Greg McLean.

The Belko Experiment is an action-horror thriller that revolves around the American Belko company in South America, which is mysteriously sealed off at the beginning of a work day. Employees are then ordered to kill each other if they don’t want to be killed. This situation will bring out the true violent nature of each Belko employee.

Fans have been patiently waiting for news on this movie and today was finally the day. Among the many great news in the Toronto International Film Festival announcement, was that of The Belko Experiment getting its world premiere at the festival.

Belko is an incredibly crazy script by James Gunn. There’s nothing else like it. Trust me. It’s a wild, wild movie. I’m so glad I got to direct it. James was great. We have a similar sensibility over the movies we like and the references we like. So, we clicked over those things. I think he’s a great writer, but he was great fun to work with, and really respectful of me taking over the project, and directing it”, Greg McLean said.

McLean’s credits include the horror films Wolf Creek and The Darkness. As for James Gunn, in addition to his work for Marvel, he directed the comedy-horror film Slither (totally recommend it, by the way) and penned Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake (we can talk about that another time).

If these are not enough reasons to make you excited about Belko, the cast includes Josh Brener, Stephen Blackheart, David Dastmalchian, Tony Goldwyn, Sean Gunn, and – of course! – Michael Rooker.

“Rooker’s phenomenal. What a great actor. He’s just a force unto himself. It’s hard to describe. Whenever he comes in, it’s suddenly ‘Michael Rooker time’. Whatever is going on, suddenly the whole set’s about Michael Rooker – in a good way!”, McLean added.

James Gunn shared on Twitter that we can expect more news on Belko soon – not losing hope on a trailer or teaser!

We will keep you posted on further details regarding The Belko Experiment.
