The ‘good guys’ at Disney announced last week that a sequel to Wreck-It Ralph is coming in March 2018. Yay!
The follow-up to the 2012 hit about an arcade villain turned hero is in production with Disney’s animation team, and the news is very exciting. Fans of the first installment can expect to see some familiar faces returning, like John C. Reilly, who voiced the big, surly, heart-of-gold Ralph.
Also back at it is director Rich Moore, who will co-direct with Phil Johnston, of Frozen fame.
During the announcement, which took place on Facebook Live, Disney also revealed some concept art for the film. The picture, which was also tweeted from Disney’s official Twitter account, feature Ralph and everyone’s favorite annoying sidekick, Vanellope. Luckily, we know that means Sarah Silverman will be back to voice the scrappy partner. No word yet on if Jack McBreyer and Jane Lynch will return to play their respective video game characters.
So, with Ralph and Vanellope back at it, what can we expect from these two rabble-rousers? According to Moore, the possibilities are endless, but if we look just a little closer at the concept art… “This time,” Moore said, “Ralph’s wrecking wreaks havoc on the Web—as only he can do.”
Johnston added, “The world of the internet is the perfect place to send Ralph and Vanellope. The scope and scale are so vast and the possibilities for comedy are endless.”
Here is to hoping the dynamic duo can save us all from email spam and phony Facebook ads.
For me, this news is actually very exciting, as I adored the first film. It seems that most movies lately are either sequels or reboots, and that can get kind of old, but I am confident that this movie will be fantastic. I am in agreement with the directors—there are a million ways to take these characters.
With Ralph and Vanellope, and the talented team responsible for the film, I am pretty sure they will wreck the previous film’s box office number: $500 million worldwide, to be exact. So, good luck, Disney team! We know you can pull this one out!
