The third and fourth films in the Disney/Marvel Avengers series, which were previously named Infinity War Part 1 & 2 are being renamed to avoid confusion when both films will be released. The news will mean that the third film will be called The Avengers: Infinity War.

The recent update breaks the long-running trend of companies making the decision to split the final film in the story into two or three films depending on how much of the story that still needs to be told, or how popular the series is at the time. Personally, I’m really happy about this, and I hope that this will put an end to the trend.

Although the name change has only been officially announced, the Russo Brothers, who are directing the films, had spoken about changing the title of the films while they were doing press for their previous film Captain American: Civil War. Speaking to Uproxx, Joe Russo said, “The two movies are two very different movies…The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the [final] titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. That is a scoop; we will retitle them.”

Anthony Russo, added, “The movies are very very different from one another. It’s not part one and part two scenario, necessarily. They’re just two different expressions. I think it creates a misconception that we’re shooting them at the same time.”

And for those who are worried about the name change might delay the film production, then don’t panic as the now title The Avengers Infinity War is still set for release on May 4th 2018. The new title for the film leads us to believe that the third film will focus on the entirely on the Infinity War and it is not so strange to think that the fourth film, which will be released in 2019, will look at the aftermath of the War and what happens next in the universe. However, we don’t have an official title for the fourth film but as soon as we have one, we will let you guys know!
